Review of Etiquette and Espionage

Etiquette and Espionage By Gail Carriger

Stars: 3
Source: Netgalley

Thanks to Sophronia's mother and her high hopes that her daughter might one day be able to properly curtsy, Sophronia has just been sent off to finishing school.

Finishing school is the last place that Soph wants to be, she would rather be inventing things and climbing trees and getting dirty than learning how to be a lady. But she quickly finds out that Mademoiselle Geraldine's Finishing Academy For Young Ladies Of Quality isn't what it seems.

In between learning how to dance and stand up straight the girls are also taught how to take down armed assailants, feisty vampires and temperamental werewolves. After learning how to faint on command they are taught how to get information and how to conceal it.

It doesn't take long for Sophronia to make friends but with friends come enemies and with enemies danger is quick to follow.

I'm really not sure how I felt about this book, it was, in a word, 'okay'. I didn't hate it but I didn't love it. I'm iffy on whether or not I'll continue with the series, it felt very middle grade to me and although I did finish it I mostly did so because I was away from home without any other books to choose from.

It was my first steampunk book and I did like how different it was from other urban fantasies that I've read but it just wasn't enough to hold my attention.

I am however intrigued enough to add Carriger's adult series to my TBR list.

Until next time,

My review is my honest opinion.
