ARC Review of "No Parking At The End Times"

No Parking At The End Times By Bryan Bliss

Stars: 3
Source: Edelweiss
Release Date: February 24th 2015

Abigail's family is falling apart, they've lost everything, their money, their possessions, their home. One minute they're living in South Carolina, the next they find themselves in San Francisco living out of their van, giving any extra cash they might stumble upon to Brother John.

Brother John, he said the world was ending, he said he knew how to prepare people from the end, for the ultimate unknown. But so far all Brother John has done is take everything from Abigail and her family.

When Abigail's twin brother Aaron tells her he's planning on leaving San Francisco and heading back to home she's hesitant to follow, but it doesn't take long for Aaron to change her mind. Their father isn't going to change, Brother John isn't going to change and their situation isn't getting any better.

Torn between family loyalty and self preservation Abigail must choose to have faith in herself and whatever higher power she believes in in order to survive.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This was a very interesting read, it was really short so I flew through it in one sitting but it did leave me thinking afterwards.

Mostly about how angry it makes me that their are people in this world who use religion as a way to con people out of their life savings.

I couldn't help but shake my head at Abigail's father and think to myself "Who would believe this man? How stupid do you have to be?" But you see it on the news all the time, con artists are smart and conniving and most of the time they get away with it.

I was hoping for a slightly more fast paced book when I started this and although I finished it rather quickly there were some parts that dragged on for me.

I feel like it could have been a little more suspenseful, especially towards the end, and I wouldn't have minded a couple more chapters.

But all in all it was a lovely debut and I look forward to seeing what comes next from this author.

Until next time,
Ginger

Stacking The Shelves (25)

"We are all book lovers and the need to share our enthusiasm is sometimes overwhelming. Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in the physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

If you're anything like me, you are probably hoarding books and even though you are excited about your latest book arrival, it might be a while before you get to review it and Stacking The Shelves is a good way to express your undying enthusiasm for those titles."

Sooooo Remember that 'book buying ban' I was on? 'Was' being the operative word...
My local bookstore had a sale a week or two ago and I may have gone a liiiitle overboard.

All their hardbacks were 40% off, paperbacks 10% off and for some odd reason "All The Light We Cannot See" was only SIX DOLLARS!!! Also "Vanish" is signed and I got to meet the author so *insert happy dance here*.
It was just too good to pass up! :) I also got a couple more books that aren't pictured for my #OTSPSecretSister So needless to say I'm back on another buying ban.

Let me know if you got any good books this week so I can... put them on hold... at the library...

Until next time,
 Ginger

ARC Review of "The Third Twin"

The Third Twin By C.J. Omololu

Stars: 4
Source: Netgalley
Release Date: February 24th 2015

Alicia is the fun twin, the outgoing twin, the one who doesn't give a damn what others think of her, she says what she thinks and she gets what she wants. Also? She doesn't exist.

Ever since Ava and Lexi were little they've used 'Alicia' as a way to disperse the blame, to get what they want, to avoid consequences. But now they've gone too far.

When not one but two boys 'Alicia' dated show up dead the police start pointing fingers at the twins, and when Ava adds fuel to the fire by lying to the police about who Alicia really is Lexi starts to question if Ava is somehow involved.

This book was marketed as "Pretty Little Liars" meets "Revenge" so obviously, being a fan of both shows, that drew me in instantly.

It was much more PPL than Revenge, Lexi wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed and I'm 98% positive most of her problems could have been solved by going to the police with the truth, but honest who would read that book?

Even though I did give it a solid 4 stars it still didn't live up to what I had built up in my head.

The idea of 'The Third Twin' was so intriguing and mystifying but the reveal was a little Wizard of Oz, when Dorothy finds out the Oz is really just a little man behind a curtain.

It definitely kept me on the edge of my seat up until the last couple of chapter where it started lagging a little. Sadly it just lacked the drama and suspense that the first 2/3 of the book had.

I can't say much more without spoilers but if you're a fan of "Pretty Little Liars" I would still check it out.

Until next time,
Ginger

Waiting On Wednesday

Waiting On Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Here is my selection for the week:

Taken from Barnes and Noble:
New York Times bestselling author Lauren Oliver delivers a gripping story about two sisters inexorably altered by a terrible accident.
Dara and Nick used to be inseparable, but that was before the accident that left Dara's beautiful face scarred and the two sisters totally estranged. When Dara vanishes on her birthday, Nick thinks Dara is just playing around. But another girl, nine-year-old Madeline Snow, has vanished, too, and Nick becomes increasingly convinced that the two disappearances are linked. Now Nick has to find her sister, before it's too late.
In this edgy and compelling novel, Lauren Oliver creates a world of intrigue, loss, and suspicion as two sisters search to find themselves, and each other.
Release date is March 10th 2015
I'm extremely excited for this book (DUH it's Lauren OLIVER!) But I'm more excited than usual because at the end of March she is having a signing at my local bookstore so this is definitely on my wish list and I'll hopefully have the money to pick it up sometime before the signing!
Until next time,
Ginger

ARC Review of "Since You've Been Gone"

Since You've Been Gone By Mary Jennifer Payne

Stars: 2
Source: Netgalley
Release Date: February 17th 2015

This is going to be a ridiculously short review.

The story starts off with Edie and her mother, Sydney, running. Apparently from Edie's father who has, yet again, found them. The next thing you know they have moved from Canada to the UK and Sydney is explaining to Edie about her new job and how she works nights. Short story even shorter Edie comes home from school one day to realize her mother hasn't returned from work and sets out to find her.

Kind of.

This book annoyed me. A lot.

It was very, very rushed and Edie wasn't the brightest bulb in the box. For someone who has been on the run for such a long time you would think she would have been a little bit more 'street smart'.

I understand (to an extent) not calling the police, but if you're not going to involve the authorities you might want to be a little more active in searching for your missing mother!

Edie was all over the place character wise, and don't even get me started on Jermaine or any of the other sub characters.

The plot was very transparent to the point that it had gaping holes staring back at you.

To be honest it might have been better had it been longer but if it hadn't have been so short I probably wouldn't have finished it so it's a double edged sword...

Until next time,
Ginger

Waiting On Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Here is my selection for the week:

Taken from Barnes and Noble:

"Don't believe anything they say."
Those were the last words that Annie spoke to Alice before turning her back on their family and vanishing without a trace. Alice spent four years waiting and wondering when the impossibly glamorous sister she idolized would return to her--and what their Hollywood-insider parents had done to drive her away.
When Annie does turn up, the blond, broken stranger lying in a coma has no answers for her. But Alice isn't a kid anymore, and this time she won't let anything stand between her and the truth, no matter how ugly. The search for those who beat Annie and left her for dead leads Alice into a treacherous world of tough-talking private eyes, psychopathic movie stars, and troubled starlets--and onto the trail of a young runaway who is the sole witness to an unspeakable crime. What this girl knows could shut down a criminal syndicate and put Annie's attacker behind bars--if Alice can find her first. And she isn't the only one looking
Evoking classic film noir, debut novelist Mary McCoy brings the dangerous glamour of Hollywood's Golden Age to life, where the most decadent parties can be the deadliest, and no drive into the sunset can erase the crimes of past.
Release date is March 3rd 2015.

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke And The Bookish where each week there is a new topic for a top ten list.

This week is "Top Ten Book Related Problems I Have"

1. Shelf space. I have 3 giant bookcase, 3 small ones and 3 of those canvas book bags from Barnes and Noble and I still don't have enough space for all the books I have.

2. Time. I often joke that I need to take a month off of work just to sit and read all my books. There are series I want to re-read and books that have been on my TBR list for YEARS and yet I keep adding more and more because I need ALL the books!

3. Loaning out books.... I loaned out a book. Once! I remember it like it was yesterday, I was 13 and I had just finished New Moon and my friend (at the time) asked to borrow it. A week later she revealed to me that she had finished it but loan it to someone else to read... I never saw it again and I'm still bitter to this day! I don't loan out my books, no matter who you are or what our relationship is. Not happening.

4. Money.... Why must books be so expensive???

5. "Hey I know you're reading but..." No! No but! I'm reading. End of sentence. Walk away. Talk to me later. I don't walk into the movie theater and sit down beside you and try to start up a conversation so why must you interrupt my book?

6. Spoilers. For the love of novellas could you not spoil the book I'm reading? Or the book I haven't read? Or the book I have no intentions of ever reading? I recently went to a book signing and the author stood up and announced to everyone that while she would be doing a Q&A she asks that people refrain to asking questions involving spoilers... Not five minutes later a lady raises her hand and ask "Why did you kill *insert name here*?" ARE YOU FLIPPING KIDDING ME?!

7. Books with the movie posters as the cover. I have never liked a movie cover more than the original and if I can avoid them I do.

8. Speaking of movies. Lets take this 900 page book and make it a two hour movie and then while we're thinking about it lets take this 300 page book and turn it into two movies. STOP IT!!!

9. Judging a book you haven't read because: It's YA. The cover is ugly. The author is young. The movie sucked. (NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S MOVIE!) If you don't want to read it don't! It's that simple. But don't make ignorant comments about a book you've never opened.

10. And last but not least, people selling ARCS. An ARC is an advanced readers copy of a book, it may not be fully edited, the cover may change, there usually aren't acknowledgments or dedications. But one thing that all ARCS have are three little words. NOT. FOR. SALE. Yet people still try to sell them on eBay for astronomical amounts! It infuriates me!

Rant over. Hope it wasn't too awful and that it didn't scare you away.

Let me know in the comments what your book related problems are or link me back to your post and I'll check it out.

Until next time,
Ginger

Mini Review of The Distance Between Lost and Found

The Distance Between Lost and Found By Kathryn Holmes

Stars:2
Source: Edelweiss
Release Date: February 17th 2015

Hallelujah used to sing, she used to have friends, her parents used to trust her.

But that was all before, before the night that Luke Willis ruined her life.

Now six months later Hallie still carries the weight of what happened that night and the consequences of the lies Luke told.

While on a youth group retreat Hallie and two others become lost in the woods and after the realization that they might not be rescued Hallie opens up about what really happened the night.

I really wanted to like this book. I love survival stories of any kind so when I first read the synopsis I knew it was my kind of book. Then I read it...

First off I didn't relate to Hallie at all, to be honest I found it quite irritating that she never felt the need to stand up for herself or even attempt to tell her side of the story, she simple let Luke walk all over her and drag her and her reputation through the mud.

I despised Jonah for multiple reasons but the top one being he cut all contact with Hallie without talking to her about what happened and treated her like crap even though he knew she wasn't that kind of person.

Rachel was annoying as hell, if it weren't for her they wouldn't have ended up lost in the first place but to top it all off once they are lost she turns into a whiny brat.

To be 100% honest the only reason I finished the book was to see if any of them died before being rescued...

Looking at some of the reviews for this book I think I'm the only one who felt this way about it, I'm not sure why I disliked it so much but needless to say it just wasn't my cup of tea.

Until next time,
Ginger

Next is the Finish The Series Challenge, I only signed up for one series but I'm planning on upping it to around 5 or 6 because I finished the third companion novel in Stephanie Perkins series and I don't want to just stop there.

My last challenge is the Netgalley/EW challenge.

I signed up for 50+ books and so far I have read 12!

The Forgotten Girls.

I'll keep updating you all and feel free to link your challenge posts below. :)

Mini Review of Every Time I Think Of You

Every Time I Think Of You By Tracey Garvis-Graves

Stars:5
Source: Purchased

Daisy's grandmother has just been murder in what appears to be a random act of violence, luckily the murderer failed to realize that Daisy's young son was hiding in the apartment.

Reeling from the events of the day Daisy barley registers when a reporter starts asking her questions, she simple answers them, provides him with a recent photo of her grandmother and forgets about it.

But Brooks can't seem to forget about Daisy.

Brook's has only recently returned to his hometown, leaving behind a job and a city that he loves to spend time with his dying mother, he shouldn't get attached to Daisy, or Elliot, her son, but something keeps pushing him towards her. Whether it's for his own satisfaction or simply to make sure she's safe he's not sure.

Every Time I Think Of You begs the question 'How far would you go to protect the people you love?'.

Tracey has been a long time favorite of mine ever since On The Island, I was mesmerized by her first book and fell in love with her second, Covet. As much as I did like Every Time I will say that it is my third favorite of her's and doesn't quite stand up to her first two books.

That being said it shouldn't deter you from reading this book!

I guarantee you'll fall head of heels in love with the characters, especially little Elliot, I couldn't help but love him instantly!

While the books is slightly more character driven than plot driven it does have a suspenseful undertone to it and the ever present sense of danger that keeps the reader on his or her toes.

If you're looking for a romantic mystery that will keep you turning the pages long into the early morning hours then I highly recommend you pick this up.

Until next time,
Ginger

So this week I didn't request any new books (I know I too am shocked!) but I did get my first OTSPSecretSister package!

I was beyond excited to open it and of course I LOVE everything she sent me.

If you're reading this I wanted to say THANK YOU again! I can't wait to find out who you are!

I've already used half my sticky notes and I'm hoping to be able to read Eleanor and Park tomorrow, Top 10 Clues sometime next weekend and I'm saving Life Size for a lazy day in (which I hopefully get soon).

Let me know in the comment what books you got this week and if you're participating in OTSPSecretSister than let me know if you've gotten your February package yet.

Review of Isla And The Happily Ever After

Isla And The Happily Ever After

By Stephanie Perkins

Stars: 5
Source: Purchased

Isla isn't a big risk taker, she would rather read about someone else's adventure than venture out on her own. That is until Josh, her crush for the past four years, reveals his true feelings for her and they begin the greatest adventure yet.

Happily ever after.

Amazon - Barnes and Noble  - Book Depository

-------------------------------------------

I have had this book since it's release date back in August of 2014, I picked it up after reading Anna but before reading Lola.

I sat it on my shelf and it has starred at me for the past 5 months. I finished Lola and it starred at me. I picked up the book next to it and it starred at me. I got myself in an awful reading slump and it... winked at me.

I loved Anna, I adored Lola but Isla has got to be my favorite Stephanie Perkins character.

Isla instantly pulled me out of my reading slump and I no longer found myself sitting alone, wearing my pj's in my favorite reading chair but dressed to the nines, walking down a cobbled Paris street, watching her and Josh fall head over heels in love with one another.

I related to her instantly, she's shy, awkward around the guy she likes and of course she has unruly red hair.

I loved how she carried around this crush for Josh for nearly 4 years before anything became of it.

They made such a cute couple I found myself grinning from ear to ear while reading.

I loved Kurt and how Isla would never allow someone in her life who would look down on him or treat him with anything but respect.

They both had their ups and downs (what love story doesn't?) but Stephanie writes with such grace and elegance that it doesn't matter if she ripped out your heart two chapters ago and smashed it into little pieces because once she puts it back together it's better than it was before.

The cherry on top was of course the sneak peek we got into the previous main characters lives. I won't go into too much detail but I will say it had the perfect story book ending, which of course isn't an ending at all, but a beginning.

"I used to be one of those girls. The kind who loved to deliver bad news. When I colored my hair, I imagined it seeping into my scalp, black dye pooling into my veins.
But that was the old Lacy. Now, when I cast spells, they are always for good."
16-year-old Lacy believes that magic and science can work side by side. She's a botanist who knows how to harness the healing power of plants. So when her father dies, Lacy tries to stay with her step-mother in Chico, where her magic is good and healing. She fears the darkness that her real mother, Cheyenne, brings out, stripping away everything that is light and kind.
Yet Cheyenne never stays away for long. Beautiful, bewitching, unstable Cheyenne who will stop at nothing, not even black magic, to keep control of her daughter's heart. She forces Lacy to accompany her to Sacramento, and before long, the "old" Lacy starts to resurface.
But when Lacy survives a traumatic encounter, she finds herself faced with a choice. Will she use her powers to exact revenge and spiral into the darkness forever? Or will she find the strength to embrace the light?
Release date is February 24th 2015
This looks like a hit or miss but I'm excited to pick it up and hopefully it's as good as I imagine it being.
Until next time,
Ginger

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke And The Bookish where each week there is a new topic for a top ten list.

This week is "Top Ten Things I Dislike When It Comes To Romance In Books"

So I'm just going to jump right in and see if I can actually come up with 10 things.

1. Insta-love. Puh-lease! I've had enough, move on.

2. Cheaters. Its great if you find your 'one true love' but maybe you might want to break up with your boy/girlfriend first? Just a thought.

3. Trilogies. When it comes to trilogies with love and or love triangles it always seems to be the same. They fall in love in book one. Something happens in book two and they can't be together and in book three everything works out and they live happily ever after. It drives me crazy!

4. Misunderstandings. Sure you found a sketchy text, he smells like another girls perfume, you saw him out shopping with a pretty blonde, I don't want the MC to pretend like none of this happened but for heavens sake get the facts. I'm tired of the main characters lack of communication. They get mad, break it off and end all communication only to find out weeks later it was his sister or his cousin.

5. Super hero's. I'm looking at you Oliver Queen! I recently attended a comic con where Brandon Routh was doing a panel and he said it perfectly. (I'm paraphrasing) "What's the point of saving the world if you can't enjoy it with the one you love?" I'm so damn tired of super hero's who feel the need to push away the people they love because their alter ego might put them in danger. For heavens sake make the most of what you have and stop letting fear control your life!

Well it looks like I only have five things but bug me when it comes to romance in literature (or television). I'm sure I'm forgetting things and I'm sure not everyone agrees with mine but I can't wait to see what everyone else came up with!

Until next time,
Ginger

ARC Review of Where The Road Takes Me

Where The Road Takes Me By Jay McLean

Stars: 4
Source: Netgalley
Release Date: February 10th 2015

Chloe has spent the last four years of high-school being invisible. Not because people didn't notice her but because she didn't want to be noticed. She blended in, kept to herself and never drew any unwanted- or wanted attention to herself.

Her plan was working perfectly, with graduation just around the corner she could see the light at the end of the tunnel. She'd leave behind her life and her family and hit the road. Drive until she couldn't drive anymore. It was a perfect plan, at least in Chloe's eyes. Which is why she is less than thrilled after a run in with the schools hottest guy starts pushing her further and further into the spotlight.

Blake Hunter can't believe that it's taken him nearly four years to notice Chloe but now that he has he finds it impossible to ignore her. Even though that's what she's asked of him.

The more Blake tries to get to know Chloe the more she pushes him away.
She won't allow anyone to care about her, let alone love her when in the end she'll just break their hearts.

Together they discover that sometimes even the best laid plans are often the ones best forgotten and that following their own path is the only way to fully live their lives.

This is my second Jay McLean book (my first being More Than This) so I had very high expectations.

While I would LOVE to give this book 5 stars for the sole fact that it is a Jay McLean book this one just didn't... Enchant me like her previous book.

I felt like the love was too instant and the drama was too high.

There were scenes I really enjoyed and scenes where I caught myself rolling my eyes because it was just so cliche.

As it progressed I began to like it a little bit more, especially once *SPOILER ALERT* they hit the road.

I was really pleased that Chloe stuck to her guns and continued on with her plan of driving off into the sunset, I felt like if she had stayed for Blake she would have regretted not leaving.

Even though "Where The Road Takes Me" did has some flaws I still thoroughly enjoyed reading it and I looked forward to Jay's future works.

Until next time,
Ginger

ARC Review of My Heart And Other Black Holes

My Heart and Other Black Holes By Jasmine Warga

Stars: 3
Source: Edelweiss
Release Date: February 10th 2015

Aysel is planning her suicide. She has made up her mind. No one can change it. There's only one problem. She's not sure she can do it by herself.

That's where Roman comes in. One click of the mouse and they are now suicide buddies.

Two completely different people who have a darkness inside of them so strong and so powerful that they see no way to get rid of it save for ending their lives.

Aysel keeps the reason for her upcoming death close to her chest, she's not an open person and even when Roman shares why he's chosen this path she still keeps her secrets locked up.

Roman's reason is simple. He blames himself for the death of his little sister. Why should he continue to live when she had her life stolen away from her?

The closer the day they've chosen to die comes the more Aysel second guesses her choice. But can she really back out on Roman? Can she really let him die without her? Or will she be able to save both of their lives?

This is my THIRD suicide book of the month... I can't even tell you how happy I am to be able to finish this book and move on to a light, fluffy, romance book.

Now... I think I'm the only person who didn't like this book...

*Ducks and runs away in a zig-zag motion*

It wasn't bad but it just wasn't my favorite.

The writing was nice and I did like the dry humor that Warga has, Aysel and Roman were good characters and I did feel for both of them but I just didn't feel any connection to them. Even towards the ending I made myself put it down with only a few chapters left because I had read reviews that everyone cried during the last part and I was at work. Well once I got home I finished it and realized I could have read it anywhere without risk of hysterical sobs taking over my body.

I'm not really sure what else to say. I feel like when I love a book I could go on for ages talking about it and the same when I hate a book but when I feel... Indifferent I'm not really sure how to describe it.

It was okay, not my favorite, didn't love it, didn't hate it.
