Waiting On Wednesday

Waiting On Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Here is my selection for the week:

From Barnes and Noble:

Theodore Finch is fascinated by death, and he constantly thinks of ways he might kill himself. But each time, something good, no matter how small, stops him.

Violet Markey lives for the future, counting the days until graduation, when she can escape her Indiana town and her aching grief in the wake of her sister’s recent death.

When Finch and Violet meet on the ledge of the bell tower at school, it’s unclear who saves whom. And when they pair up on a project to discover the “natural wonders” of their state, both Finch and Violet make more important discoveries: It’s only with Violet that Finch can be himself—a weird, funny, live-out-loud guy who’s not such a freak after all. And it’s only with Finch that Violet can forget to count away the days and start living them. But as Violet’s world grows, Finch’s begins to shrink.

This is an intense, gripping novel perfect for fans of Jay Asher, Rainbow Rowell, John Green, Gayle Forman, and Jenny Downham from a talented new voice in YA, Jennifer Niven.

Release date is January 6th 2015

Until next time,
Ginger

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke And The Bookish where each week there is a new topic for a top ten list.

This week is "Top Ten Blogging Resolutions for 2015"

1. Being able to plan ahead. I've have tried to have a post on my blog everyday since October and so far I've only missed a couple days but I'd love to be a month or two ahead with my scheduled posts.

2. Requesting more physical ARCS. I want to be more assertive and send out more requests for physical ARCS and not rely so much on NG and EW.

3. More giveaways! I want to be able to do more giveaways on my blog, especially in June for my blog anniversary.

4. New layout/design. I want to revamp my blog, new layout, new colors, new pictures.

5. Hopefully in 2015 I can find more time to read books that have already been released,  I have piles and piles and I want to at least make a dent in them this year.

6. I want to organize my archives and tags and make everything easier to read and locate.

7. Emails. I want to be better about responding to emails in a timely fashion and not letting my inbox get completely out of control.

8. YALLWEST. I want to go. SO. BAD! I'm hoping I can swing it and be able to go and have a fun time.

9. Review books as soon as I finish them. Its SO MUCH easier to read the last chapter and turn around and write my review but sometimes I let them build up and it kills me.

10. Use the library!!!! I don't want to buy as many books as I bought in 2014... I don't even want to add up all the books I bough in 2014, I probably spent enough to go to YALLWEST 2 times over but hopefully this coming year I can have a little more self control.

I guess we'll see how I do this coming year with these resolutions. Wish me luck!

Until next time,
Ginger

Mini ARC Review of "The Rosie Effect"

The Rosie Effect By Graeme Simison

Stars: 2
Source: Edelweiss
Release Date: December 30th 2014

I've been putting off writing this review for the sole purpose that my mother told me if I wrote a bad review for "The Rosie Effect" she's cut me. I think she was only partially kidding.

This is going to be rather short and I'm not doing a synopsis like I usually would. The cheat sheet version (in case you did know) is that Don and Rosie are now living in New York and Rosie has just announced that she's pregnant. As you can imagine Don doesn't handle it like one might expect.

*Spoilers Ahead*

I really enjoyed "The Rosie Project" it was a quick read and I was truly invested in the characters and what became of them. "The Rosie Effect" was ten steps back in that area. As I read I slowly began to hate Rosie and the way she was treating Don. She admits to getting pregnant on purpose without talking to him about it, she shuts him out of the pregnancy and in the end threatens to move back to Australia and take their child with her.

She doesn't understand, nor does it seem like she wants to, how Don is coping with the news of becoming a father. I'm sorry but you knew who he was and how he processed things when you married him, it's a little late to try to change him or his behavior.

There were some parts I liked, for instance, Don getting arrested at a playground for watching small children (for research, of course!). I honestly couldn't stop laughing, but these scenes were few and far between and were completely forgotten the moment that Rosie reentered the story.

It was as if she had been wiped completely clean of her charm and wit and lovable charisma and all that was left was a hollow shell of the old Rosie, taken over by, for lack of a better word, the worlds biggest bitch.

Perhaps I built up the second book to much, expected too much, thus setting it up for failure before I ever picked it up, but I can't imagine anyone who read the first book, who fell head over heels for the characters, liking "The Rosie Effect".

Until next time,
Ginger

ARC Review of Mr. Kiss and Tell/Veronica Mars 2.

Mr. Kiss and Tell By Rob Thomas and Jennifer Graham

Stars: 5
Source: Netgalley
Release Date: January 20th 2015

"Mr. Kiss and Tell" takes place six months after "The Thousand Dollar Tan Line", Veronica is still in Neptune and more settled than she was when we last left her. While her Dad and Weevil work to take down Sheriff Lamb and his corrupt department Veronica finds herself in the middle of a case she just can't seem to get any leads on.

The Neptune Grand has hired Veronica to prove or (hopefully) disprove a young woman's claim that she was beaten, raped and strangled in their hotel by one of their employees. The only thing is the assault happened months ago, the victim has a fuzzy memory at best and the accused assailant was deported back to Mexico right before the victim identified him. On top of all that the victim won't reveal the name of her long time boyfriend who she was suppose to meet that night.

It's complicated enough without adding in the fact that Veronica has a history with the victim.

Reading "Mr. Kiss and Tell" was like binge watching 8 episodes of Veronica Mars. Rob Thomas know's no bounds when it comes to Veronica and the characters that surround her.

He never leaves a stone unturned or a loose end. All the details are immaculate and with each page it gets better and better.

As I read I could see each character, their mannerisms the way they walk, talk, eat. All down to the tiniest details of how they raise their eyebrows or smirk when no one's watching.

I love how it's never just a random victim, a nameless, faceless nobody who wanders in off the street. There is always a connection, the past colliding head on with the present and future at unstoppable speeds.

And then, of course, there's Logan.

LoVe.

Epic.

Logan Echolls.

Don't get me wrong, I love all the other characters, Mac, Wallace, Weevil, Leo. But if you're a marshmallow, like me, you're heart longs for those Logan and Veronica scenes. This book will not disappoint you on that front.

Hell who am I kidding? It won't disappoint you at all. It's classic Veronica and everyone knows you don't fix what isn't broken.

From her witty comments to her puppy dog eyes and her fiery temper, Veronica Mars is so much more than a character. Whether on the big screen or in print you're instantly sucked into her world and when the credits roll or the last sentence is read you find yourself begging for more.

That is exactly what I find myself doing right now, it's weeks before the release date of "Mr. Kiss and Tell" and I'm already trying to find out when I can get my hands on the third installment.

It's crazy I know, "Then again, you ever hear the one about the junkie who was satisfied with just one more taste of the good stuff? Neither have I."

Until next time,
Ginger
