Unpopular Opinion Book Tag

So today I'm doing another book tag! This time it's the "Unpopular Opinion Book Tag"! 

Question #1. A popular book or series that you didn't like:

Boy oh boy did I really hated this book. If I remember right it was Reagan (on Booktube) who just raved about this book. So when Audible had it on sale for under $5.00 I snatched it up. But after listening to the whole damn book I realized just how much  I despised this book. From the writing to the characters to the weird ass story line... Ugh... 

Question #2. A popular book or series that everyone else seems to hate but that you love: 

I've talked to so many people about this book and watched so many reviews on Booktube and the majority of those people didn't like this book. Are ya'll crazy?! I just recently finished a re-read of this and I went into it telling myself to try to see it from their points of view... And let me tell you, I loved it even more the second time around! 

Question #3. A love triangle where the main character ended up with the person you DIDN'T want them to end up with or and OTP you don't like (spoilers ahead for this one!):

Now we all know this book is loosely based off of Kate Middleton and her romance with Prince William so from the beginning I knew my OTP in this book was screwed buuut I liked Bex and Freddie together ten times more than Bex and Nick. I was really hoping there would be a nice twist at the end where she ran off with him... Sorry Nick!

Question #4. A popular book genre that you hardly reach for: 

It isn't so much a specific genre as a setting that I try to stray away from but, if it's set on a boat I try not to read it. I hate reading about boat's, boat settings, endless journeys from on continent to another. It drives me crazy. I get really claustrophobic and this setting just seems to set that off in me. 

Question #5. A popular or beloved character that you don't like: 

Now wait before you freak out! When I first started reading the books I didn't like Peeta, I was very much team Gale and it took me re-reading the books and the movies to realize how much I actually loved Peeta Mellark. Now he's one of my favorite fictional characters! 

Question #6. A popular author you can't seem to get into: 

Andrea Cremer. It's not at all because I don't like her or her writing but it's more like I read the first book in her Nightshade series and I never made the time to read the rest. I hope one day I can find the time to sit down and finish the series but for now it's not a priority. 

Question #7. A popular book troupe you're tired of seeing (lost princess, corrupt ruler, love triangle): 

I don't know if this would really be considered a 'troupe' but I'm so very much over when you're reading a trilogy and the first book ends with your MC getting together with the love interest and then in the second book that love interest is complete absent for whatever reason. I feel like it all started with New Moon and it needs to stop! 

Question #8. A popular series you have no interest in reading: 

Miss Peregrines Home For Peculiar Children

I feel like I need to hide now! This series has so much hype and so much love but to be honest.. I'm too much of a baby to read it. It looks way to spooky for my taste. 

Question #9. The saying goes "The book is always better than the movie" but what movie or tv show did you like better than the book?

This one is really easy for me because I strongly disliked The Maze Runner book when I read it but I really like and enjoy the movies! Its a complete 180 from the books.

ARC Review of Sword and Verse

Raisa was just a child when she was sold into slavery, forced to work in the very castle of the people who murdered her family. What they don't know is that Raisa's father was teacher her to read and write, something forbidden in Qilara unless you are royalty or a tutor. 

Year later, after the current tutor in training is found to be a traitor Raisa is miraculously named her replacement and spared an unknown punishment for stepping out of place. 

All of a sudden Raisa is thrust into a position that allows her to not only learn more of the language her father fought so hard to teach her but she now has the ability to help the growing rebellion that is starting to rise all around the kingdom. 

A spy within the walls, she finds herself getting caught in a game of cat and mouse, slowly but surely helping the rebels carry out their plans for a imminent uprising. But when she suddenly starts falling for the Prince she's not sure whose side she's on anymore.

I really enjoyed this book. I was really iffy going into it because I hadn't heard a ton about it but it was a really nice surprise. 

It reminded me of a mash up between The Red Queen and An Ember In The Ashes. 

What I liked about it was that most of the story was about Raisa learning to read and write this language that has been kept from most people for hundreds of years. It was repetitive, her being taught and trying to remember the different symbols for different words/letters. But it was never boring.

Sometimes with books where the plot gets a little redundant I'll catch myself skim reading but I didn't do that with Sword and Verse. It was more like I caught myself re-reading sentences over and over again because they were so beautiful. 

Honestly the only thing I didn't like about this book was the romance between Raisa and the Prince. For some reason he just rubbed me the wrong way. I ended up not hating him in the end of the book but I never fully liked him. 

Other then that this book was amazing and I would recommend it to (as I mentioned above) fans of An Ember In The Ashes or Red Queen. 

Now I've heard people say this is a standalone, which makes sense because everything was wrapped up nicely in the last chapter but on GoodReads it is marked as #1 in a series so we'll see how that goes. 

As much as I loved this book I feel like I loved it because it read like a standalone and I almost hope that it stays that way. 

I'd love to see more from this author, even a story set in this world, but I think these characters story played out perfectly in one book and I don't feel like a second one is needed.

I've pretty much been counting down the days until I could get my hands on this book since I finished the first book in the series (The Red Queen). I am such a giant fan of Victoria's writing and her story and her characters that I honestly don't know how I'm going to deal once I finish Glass Sword and have to, yet again, wait 12+ months for more. 

If you haven't read the previous book I HIGHLY  recommend it and I will definitely be picking this up the day it comes out!

Top Books I'd Like To See Hit The Big Screen

So I made this list and then realized the only way I would want these books made into actual movies/tv shows is if I could control every aspect. Casting, music, settings. No movie is better than a bad movie trying to ruin a book. So keep that in mind Hollywood! ;)

ARC Review of "Red Queen"

Mare Barrow is your average 'Red' with her 18th birthday looming just around the corner she has accepted that her fate is to join her brothers on the front lines along with all the other hundreds of thousands of 'Reds' who have been conscripted. After all pick pocketing isn't a real job and without one there's no use in trying to fight being sent off to your death. 

However Mare's world is turned upside down when she has the misfortune of pick pocketing someone faster than she is. Much to her surprise the stranger treats her with kindness and not only offers her more of what she has stolen but the next day she suddenly finds herself with a job. And not just any job. A job at the palace. 

Serving Silvers isn't Mare's lifelong dream but if it keeps her and her family safe and fed she really can't complain.

The Silvers run Mare's world, with they special abilities and endless supply of Red soldiers no one dares to cross them. 

But when Mare discovers she has abilities of her own- abilities that up until now have only been gifted to Silvers she finds herself in the middle of a political coverup story. Under the watchful eye of the Queen and her ever loyal staff Mare must learn how to control her new powers, cut ties with her 'Red' past and smile for the camera's, all while trying to find a way out of the suffocating world of Silvers and Royals and perhaps even a way to free her people from the Silvers, once and for all. 

You know in Mean Girls when Tina Fey say's "I'm a pusher!"? Well now so am I! 

Go. Read. This. Book!

I can't even describe to you how amazing "Red Queen" is, every description that I come up with feels inadequate. 

It's amazing, wonderful, terrifying, beautiful, spectacular, thrilling and addictive! 

And even all those words strung together like that do NOT do this book justice! 

I loved every second of Mare's story. It kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time, it was like a never ending roller coaster, one where you're never quite sure if you're upside down or right side up. 

Every single character, from the Royals to the maids all radiated with life. It seemed like if I could only get closer to the pages, breathe them in a little, that I would tumble right in and find myself surrounded by Victoria's characters. And what an amazing journey that would've been. 

You've all been asked the same question countless times, if you could live in any fictional world which would you choose? Well even though Hogwarts is still in first place, at least for me, Mare Barrow's world is now a very close second. 

My only warning to you is that once you finish the book you will immediately want to get your hands on the second one. I can tell you right now that the absolute second they announce the release date for the sequel I will have a countdown going, and not just a daily one, oh no, it will be down to the minute!
