Review and Giveaway of "Veil Of Anonymity"

Veil Of Anonymity By Lauriane Povey 

Stars: 5 

The bully never intended for this to happen. He never wanted to hurt anyone, not really. It was a way of letting out his anger. Anger towards his drunk father, anger towards his mother who is always comparing him to his perfect sister. Anger that Jess, the prettiest girl in school seems to have chosen Marcus over him. 

So the bully takes all of his hatred and channels it towards Marcus, he cuts him down, strips away his confidence, takes away him smile, his sense of security, he threatens his family and with a few strokes of his keyboard he has turned Marcus' life into a living hell. 

I was asked to review "Veil of Anonymity" during this years Cyber Bully Week to bring awareness to cyber bullying and the affect it has on many young adults. 

This book not only does an amazing job of showcasing the pure evil of cyber bullying but it is so unique in the sense that it's told from the bully's point of view. What makes this book spectacular (at least in my opinion) is how effortlessly Lauriane can describe the pain and hurt caused by the bully without ever writing from the victims point of view and without ever revealing the bully's name. He is simply known as 'The Bully'. 

I read this book in one sitting and I did not want it to end. The second I finished it I immediately got on Goodreads to see what else Lauriane had written and was shocked to discover she was only 18 years old. 

At 23 years old I don't yet have the capability to write with such grace and maturity as Lauriane does at the age of 18. I am completely and utterly jealous of her way with words. 

I urge you to put down whatever you're reading now and pick up this book! Even knowing from the first page how it ended it still left me on the edge of my seat, biting my freshly painted finger nails and holding my breath in anticipation of what would happen.

Review of "Every Breath"

Every Breath By Ellie Marney

Rachel Watts and her family have recently moved to the city, it's bigger, louder, more crowded and Rachel hates it. All she wants is to return her quiet, peaceful country life and let the grim of the city life wash down the drain. 

The only problem with that is Mycroft. 

James Mycroft is the boy next door, one of the smartest people that Rachel knows and although they are best friends Rachel feelings often walk a thin line between friendship and romance. 

When an evening walk to the zoo turns deadly they find themselves caught up in the middle of a murder investigations. With Mycroft's brilliant mind and forensic knowledge they both set out to find killer before the killer finds them.  

Lets just start with the blurb that made me read this book "What if Sherlock Holmes was the boy next door?" That right there drew me in but it was Marney's characters and story line that kept me going. 

I loved all the twists and turns and how even though there were a few moments when they did something dumb that put them in harms way they were, for the most part, very strategic and smart about the moves they made.  

I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good mystery but also to anyone who loves 'the feels' because oh boy did this book have feels. I'm very excited for the next book in this series and I cannot wait to see where Marney's characters end up next.

Black. It was the only colour she could see as she stood on top of the platform. Her vision had tunnelled with the waves of vertigo that hit her body, allowing only the dark colour into her eye line. With the strength of a gale force wind, it pounded on her chest, causing her to stumble back as its icy hold sent a shiver along her spine. The break from seeing the ground wasn’t enough, though. She couldn’t go far enough to feel safe. If she moved more than one step in any direction she would fall.

She felt dizzy ... lightheaded.

It was the worst possible time to find out she was scared of heights, but maybe it was the thought of jumping rather than the actual distance. Not only did she feel faint, but also sick. Kayleigh didn’t even know how those two actions could combine, but she let out a nervous giggle and hoped another type of blackness would capture her mind before she made a complete fool of herself. It probably made her sound insane, but she couldn’t stop the sound.

No longer could she find the answer to why she was on a platform, willing herself to fall. It had seemed logical and easy on the climb up, but now she suddenly felt as if she was standing on top of a building, rather than a few metres in the air. Her heart was pounding in her chest; the rhythm frantic as she urged herself to peer over the edge once more. Palms slick with sweat, her fingers slipping over each other, she twitched nervously as she strained her neck to catch a glimpse of the floor.

“I can do this. Just lean back and it will all be over,” she muttered to herself, only adding to the crazy image she had going on.

People were shuffling anxiously on the ground, unsettled by her actions. “Block them out, Kayleigh. You can do this,” she chanted ritually under her breath before she inhaled sharply. Slowly counting, she exhaled with a deep sigh when she reached twenty. Her whole body relaxed with the action and Kayleigh closed her eyes, trying to find a sense of peace and stillness. Unfortunately, all it did was make her knees weaker. Reopening her eyes, Kayleigh kept her head up and her chin parallel with the floor. If she didn’t look down, what she was about to do couldn’t scare her … at least that’s what she told herself.

About the Author

Mia Hoddell lives in the UK with her family and two cats. She spends most of her time writing or reading, loves anything paranormal and has an overactive imagination that keeps her up until the early hours of the morning.

With three poems published before the age of sixteen, Mia moved on to short stories but finding she had too much to tell with too little space, Mia progressed to novels. She started her first series (The Wanderer Trilogy) at the age of fourteen and since then hasn’t stopped writing. Elemental Killers is her second series and with an ever growing list of ideas, Mia is trying to keep up with the speed at which her imagination generates them.

Probably the 60's :)

The One and Only, it had really good parts and parts that I didn't care for. 

4. Favorite book that is outside of your usual realm of reading? 

The Elegance of the Hedgehog. 

5. Book that you loved that you think should get more attention? 

Tin Lily, it was beautifully written and it deserves more attention. 

6. What is your favorite book to movie adaptation? 

The Fault in Our Stars 

7. What is your least favorite book cover? 

I can never think of one when asked this question, I didn't like the original Anna and Lola covers but I LOVE the paperback versions.

8. What author do you own the most books from? 

That's so easy, James Patterson, I have almost all of his Alex Cross books and that's about 20 books, plus all the other stand alone's I have its about 30-35. 

9. Is there a debut 2015 authors book that you are looking forward to?

Liana Liu's The Memory Key looks so good and I'm very excited to read it. 

10. If you read mostly YA, favorite adult book? 

At the moment it's "Always Something There To Remind Me".
